an EU-funded Coordination and Support Action (CSA) enhances Smart Community services across Europe by integrating Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) with 5G in the "Connected Collaborative Computing" (3C) network. This initiative fosters a smarter, interconnected European digital landscape, supporting responsive technologies and services like Cooperative, Connected, and Automated Mobility (CCAM).

Driving 5G and Edge Computing Integration
The 5GMEC4EU is a CEF Digital funded Coordination and Support Action (CSA). 5GMEC4EU seeks to strengthen the European rollout of 5G systems and to push the adoption of Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) facilities along major TEN-T transport routes and within local communities. Its approach — the establishment of an MEC related stakeholder network including mobile, network operators, infrastructure providers and technology firms— merges passive network components, federated edge cloud infrastructures and related operational facilities.
The primary objective is the assurance of service continuity and the interoperability of 5G services across EU transportation grids, enhancing edge computing standards and enabling the digitalization of local communities. In collaboration with key industry stakeholders, business cases will be derived based on customer needs, ensuring that the initiatives align with both technological advancements and market demands.
By bringing together stakeholders such as network operators, infrastructure providers, and leaders in the automotive industry, 5GMEC4EU supports the standardization and esatblishment of robust MEC-driven infrastructures for tests, pilot scenarios, and proofs of concept that require cross-border service operability. Moreover, through collaborative efforts, symposiums, and community engagement, 5GMEC4EU endeavors to align European cloud infrastructures with MEC capabilities.
